Overview
Breast enlargement is one of the most common breast augmentation NZ procedure women have done to their bodies. This procedure is designed to enhance the size, shape and texture of your breasts.
This is primarily for cosmetic effect rather than for any functional effect.
This is usually done for reconstructive purposes for women who have chest wounds from the removal of a cancerous breast or to correct congenital defects.
Another reason why women have this procedure done is simply due to their perception of size and the desire to have bigger breasts.
Breast enlargement is done by inserting breast implants filled with either a saline solution or silicone gel. A tissue expander may be installed before the actual procedure is done to ready the site where the implants are to be inserted.
There have been many improvements in this area of expertise and we have continued to develop our techniques to ensure all patients receive the best products and services from our facility.
Best Candidates
Women with realistic expectations with good general health and as close as possible to their ideal BMI based on age, height and other physical factors.
Women who are emotionally stable and are looking to improve their breast’s general appearance.
What to Expect
An initial consultation will be done to assess what you essentially need for functionality with a secondary assessment by our chest surgeon done for the aesthetic purpose of the operation.
This procedure is done under a general anaesthetic.
An incision is made to create a pocket where the implant will sit. This is either under the skin or under a layer of muscle. The implant is then inserted once the pocket is deemed suitable. Incisions are made under the armpit and are around 2 to 3 centimetres in length.
A drain will be installed to syphon off excess fluid and binding will be used to keep your breast and breast implant in place for the first few hours after the operation.

After Surgery / Recovery
As with all types of surgical procedures, caring for the areas where sutures were made is the highest priority. Following your breast enlargement surgeon’s instruction for the proper care of affected areas is highly advised.
Pain management can be administered by hospital staff or by the patient. It can be oral or through intravenous methods.
Physical therapy will be introduced gradually for muscle strengthening and fortifying the areas operated on.
There may be some mild discomfort during the healing stage and is more pronounced with subglandular breat implants.
Swelling may occur. Use ice packs for pain relief.
Loss of sensation may occur up to 3 months while the local nerves heal.
